The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) with support from the European Union (EU) has begun public sensitization activities in five regions of Northern Ghana and Western North as well as other border regions, hotspots communities and some coastal areas. The activities are under the “Preventing Electoral Violence and Providing Security to the Northern Border Regions of Ghana (NORPREVSEC) project.” The project is being implemented in two faces; Stakeholders’ Meetings and Inter-Party Dialogue Committee (IPDC) meetings.
The engagements will allow the NCCE to actively connect with citizens in these beneficiary regions and communities to fight against transnational organised crimes, while promoting respect for human rights and the rule of law. The IPDC meetings will create platforms for dialogue among political parties and other stakeholders on effective ways to identify early warning signals of violent extremism, enhance community surveillance and discuss measures to counter radicalization of the youth.
Representatives of the National Security, the National Intelligence Bureau Regional, the Divisional and District Police Command and NCCE Officers will facilitate the discussion on the National Security Strategy and National Framework for Countering Violent Extremism and Terrorism in Ghana with emphasis on preventing violent extremism in Ghana.
Participants include political parties, Christian and Muslim organisations, women and youth groups as well as persons with disabilities (PWDs) and the media and will be given the opportunity to share views on issues that bother on violent extremism, security and national cohesion.
