NATIONAL CATHOLIC SECRETARIAT ENGAGES NCCE ON “I SHAME CORRUPTION” PROJECT

The Department of Human Development (DHD) under the National Catholic Secretariat and its

partners held a consultative meeting with the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) on August 6, 2018 at the NCCE’s Head Office at Ridge in Accra. The objective of the meeting was to elicit the support of the NCCE to achieve the following:

Dissemination of civic education materials on anti-corruption among Basic School Pupils Organise quarterly anti-corruption debates among 20 participating schools across the country and Organise quarterly media engagements at both local and national levels.

The steering and review meeting was attended by the Chairman and Deputy Chairmen, Directors and selected staff of NCCE, the Project Manager, Project Officer, representative of Federation of Muslim Women’s Associations, Ghana (FOMWAG) and the National Catholic Secretariat of the “I Shame Corruption” project team.

In her opening remarks, the Chairman of the NCCE, Ms. Josephine Nkrumah, who also served as

Chairman at the launch of the “I Shame Corruption” project held in May 2018 stated that the NCCE and the project team shared the same vision in fighting corruption as a canker in Ghana. She pledged the NCCE’s full support and commitment to the implementation of the project. Further, she reiterated that the Commission’s Civic Education Clubs (CECs) platform will incorporate the “I Shame Corruption in its schedule. Ms. Nkrumah finally appealed to the inter-faith groups to reach their congregation to preach the message of the “I Shame Corruption” project.

Mr. Samuel Zan Akologo, the “I Shame Corruption” Project Manager in his remarks said the entire project was anchored on partnership. He, therefore, urged all partners to serve as anti-corruption influencers and ambassadors to help fight acts of corruption from within. Mr. Akologo called on all State Institutions and Civil Society Organisations to partner with each other in the first against corruption. The project is supported by STAR-Ghana.

Partners of the “I Shame Corruption” project are the Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference, Office of the National Chief Imam, Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council, Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission, Ghana, Marshallian Relief and Development Services (MAREDES), Ghana Federation of Muslim Women's Associations, Ghana (FOMWAG), Ghana Education Service (GES) and National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE).
