The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) in collaboration with the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) has undertaken a District Assembly Common Fund (DACF) Support App pilot project to assist about 400 Persons with Disability (PWDs) within the Sunyani Municipal Assembly. The PWDs involved, physical, hearing, speech, sight, intellectual, emotional, cognitive, albinism, and neurological disabilities.
The pilot project sought to collect direct feedback from PWDs in the municipality in relation to the 3% provision that is made in the DACF to support PWDs, especially those outside the formal sector.
The Municipal Director of the Sunyani Municipal Office of the NCCE, Mr.Benjamin Kyere, who is also a member of the District Technical Team of DACF, mentioned that the pilot project did not only focus on the conditions of the PWDs, but it also aimed at monitoring, evaluating and reporting Ghana’s progress in achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Mr. Kyere also stated that the project would provide the platform for an accountability mechanism between the District Assembly’s spending of the common fund and the experiences of PWDs who benefited from the services. He added that the project was expected to evaluate the effectiveness of the DACF support for PWDs as well as to aid strengthen policy and ultimately ensure that “no one is left behind”.
