NCCE Yendi Office Partners the GNFS to Educate the Public on Fire Safety

The Yendi Municipal office of the NCCE, in collaboration with the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), has taken steps to educate residents on fire safety and bushfire prevention. The sensitisation targeted market women, group hunters, and community members, focusing on common causes of fires, effective extinguishing methods, and emergency contact procedures. It also aimed to equip participants with strategies to prevent bushfires, enhance agriculture, and protect the environment.

Mr. Osman Kassim, the Municipal Director of the NCCE’s Yendi office, highlighted the dangers of bush and market fires, particularly in farming communities. He identified hunters as a major cause of bushfires and urged them to refrain from indiscriminate burning to protect farmlands and livelihoods. He expressed concern over farmers losing their produce to fires and called on hunters and herdsmen to stop the practice to safeguard the environment, lives, and property.

Mr. Alhassan Abukari W., Station Officer 2 of the GNFS, stressed the need for greater awareness of fire hazards at home and in the market. He urged the public to use approved building materials to minimise fire risks and reaffirmed the GNFS’s commitment to sensitise the public on fire prevention methods. Market women and residents appreciated the initiative and appealed for a fire hydrant to be installed at the Yendi market to improve emergency response.
