The Berekum East Municipal Office of the National Commission for Civic Education has engineered a rendezvous between members of parliament hopefuls and the constituents of the political jurisdiction through the Commission’s flagship electioneering programme dubbed “Parliamentary Candidates’ Dialogue”.
The goal was to provide a platform for candidates seeking to represent the people on the floor of parliament to market their policies and plans to their constituents and count on their buy-in during the General Election. It also offers the electorates an avenue to seek clarity on these policies and plans in order to inform the decisions they make behind the voting booth.
Addressing the audience, Chairman of the Inter-Party Dialogue Committee, who is also the Nanakyeame for the Berekum Traditional Council, Nana Ofori Frempong, advised the attendees to block all means by which they could be used to carry out violent acts in the wake of the December 7 Polls, on behalf of the candidates. “If they call you to go and cause violence, ask them to bring their family members to come and lead”, he stated.
He additionally urged the candidates to exercise decorum even as they wrap up their campaign activities. He pointed out the massive influence they have on the populace, and as such must ensure they conduct themselves in a manner worth emulating by the younger generation.
Meanwhile, the only present parliamentary candidate at the Dldialogue, who is running on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in his communication, pledged to ensure that, together with his supporters, the laws and regulations governing the elections would be adhered to for peace to continue to prevail in the constituency.
