NCCE Assin Foso and Environmental Health Department educate Ghana National Association of Beautician and Hairdressers GHABA on Environmental Sanitation. On The 13th of August, 2026.

The Assin Fosu Office of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), in collaboration with the Environmental Health Department, has sensitized members of the Ghana National Association of Beauticians and Hairdressers (GHABA) in Assin Fosu on proper sanitation practices and their responsibility to keep the community clean.

The sensitization programme, held at Assin Fosu Habitat, formed part of efforts to educate residents on environmental sanitation and encourage community members to adopt responsible waste management practices.

The resource persons for the programme were Madam Akosua Innocentia, an Environmental Health Officer, and Madam Yvonne Fosu of the NCCE.

Speaking during the programme, Madam Akosua Innocentia expressed concern about the sanitation situation in Assin Fosu and urged residents to take greater responsibility for keeping their surroundings clean.

She emphasized the importance of household toilet facilities, noting that every household should have access to a toilet. She therefore advised individuals looking to rent accommodation to first ensure that the house has a proper toilet facility before moving in.

Madam Akosua also cautioned residents against the practice of defecating in rubber bags and throwing them onto the ground or into open spaces. She described the practice as unacceptable and urged residents who engage in it to desist.

She further disclosed that the Environmental Health Department would intensify house-to-house inspections to identify and address poor sanitation practices within the community.

On waste disposal, Madam Akosua identified improper disposal of refuse as another major sanitation challenge facing Assin Foso. She explained that the Assembly’s decision to charge a fee for waste disposal at designated Zoomlion containers was part of measures to improve waste management and generate revenue for the development of the district.

She noted that revenue generated from the initiative would also support the payment of workers responsible for managing the waste containers.

Madam Akosua further appealed to parents and guardians to ensure that children sent to dispose of household waste are able to reach the designated containers. She observed that some children are sent to dispose of waste despite being too young or short to properly place it inside the containers, resulting in refuse being dumped around the containers.

She therefore urged residents to take responsibility for ensuring that waste is properly disposed of and that the environment around designated waste collection points remains clean.

In her response, the President of GHABA, Madam Patricia Amoah, expressed appreciation to the NCCE and Environmental Health Department for providing the association with important information on sanitation and environmental health.

She assured the resource persons that members of the association would continue to support efforts to keep Assin Foso clean and contribute to creating a healthier environment for residents.

Madam Patricia Amoah encouraged members to take the lessons from the sensitization seriously and work together to maintain the cleanliness of Assin Foso, with the aim of achieving a cleaner community comparable to Assin Kushea.

The programme highlighted the importance of collective responsibility in addressing sanitation challenges and promoting a clean and healthy environment in the Assin Fosu community.
