The Krachi East Municipality office of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has organised an educational excursion for Civic Education Club (CEC) members within the municipality.
The NCCE Municipal Director of Education, Mr. Clement Mamadu, who led the excursion, took the pupils to government institutions in the Oti regional capital, Dambai. These institutions included the Ghana National Fire Service, the Ghana Police Service, the Dambai Magistrate Court, Ghana Commercial Bank (GCB) and the Ghana Revenue Authority. Mr. Clement Mamadu said the educational tour sought to equip the youth-in-school with the operations of these institutions.
A representative from the Municipal office of the Ghana Revenue Authority-CEPS Division-Mr. Sei Christopher stated that the service was charged with three-fold responsibilities that included the Mobilization of revenue from imports and exports, facilitation of legitimate trade, and provision of public security and safety. He emphasized the role of the citizenry in achieving these responsibilities by providing information on illegal and tax evaders to their outfit.
A Regional Fire Officer, Mr. Billy Prince Anaglate said the Ghana National Fire Service(GNFS) was committed to ensuring safer communities throughout Ghana by containment of the fire, reduction in fire-related accidents and deaths, and training community fire volunteers.
Chief Inspector of the regional police service, Lawrence Addo highlighted the core mandate of the Ghana Police Service such as the protection of lives and properties, prevention and management of crime by apprehending and prosecuting offenders, and responses to accidents. He emphasized that students with criminal records have no chance of working at any security agency since the fingerprints of such citizens are always taken and kept for future purposes.
The Regional Branch Operations Manager of the Ghana Commercial Bank (GCB), Mr. Moses Gbadegbe took the pupils through the operations of each desk at the bank such as the front desk, operations, tellers, Banca insurance, Manager and the operation of the Automatic Teller Machine-ATM. He exposed the pupils to how the bank is financed, how accounts are opened, and closed, money is transferred, and how counterfeits are detected. He emphasized the need for school children to inculcate into their daily lives the habits of savings at the bank.
The student observed the hearing of four criminal cases and two civil seatings after which His Lordship Alhassan Dramani of the Dambai Magistrate took them through the court proceedings and the various offices within the court and their duties and answered questions from the students.
