As a step to enhance appreciation of Ghana’s heritage and democratic gains among young learners, the Effutu Municipal Office of the Commission has facilitated an educational excursion to two of Ghana’s most iconic national landmarks: the Parliament House and the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park.
This trip was designed to enlighten pupils on the functions of Ghana’s Parliament and the enduring legacy of Ghana’s first President, Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah. The initiative sought to bridge classroom learning with real-world experiences, offering the children firsthand exposure to the country’s democratic processes and historical milestones.
The pupils toured the Parliament House, where they were briefed on the legislative arm of government, its role in shaping national policy, and the importance of civic participation. At the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park, the children explored exhibits chronicling the life and achievements of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, gaining insights into Ghana’s independence journey and the values of leadership and patriotism.
The young learners, after the visits, gave vivid accounts of the lessons learned, expressing gratitude to the Commission and the Municipal Directorate for the rare opportunity. Teachers in attendance also noted that the experience had sparked curiosity and pride among the students, reinforcing classroom lessons on governance and history.
Meanwhile, the Effutu Municipal Office intimated that such initiatives aid in the nurturing of informed, responsible citizens. Exposing children to the nation’s democratic and historical institutions instills values of civic responsibility, patriotism, and respect for Ghana’s heritage.
The beneficiary schools included Akosua Village Basic School, Esuekyie Basic School, and Ampah Preparatory School, all situated in the Effutu Municipality in the Central Region of Ghana.
