First-time voters at Little Lion Junior High School Complex in Nyankpala are now confident of voting the correct way to make their vote count, come the December 7 Presidential and Parliamentary Elections. This is on the back of an election education offered by the Tolon District Office of the National Commission for Civic Education.
The engagement with the students revealed they were not adequately prepared to vote, citing scepticism about the approved way of casting one’s ballot. Some of them, as a result, expressed hesitance to participate in the electoral process.
The District Director of the Commission’s Office in Tolon, during the programme, demonstrated to the students the correct way of thumbprinting to choose a preferred candidate on the ballot paper. He further highlighted the conducts that are deemed acceptable at the polling station and those that are marked as inappropriate or unlawful.
“Now that you have been taught the right way of casting your ballot, you have no excuse if your vote is counted among the rejected ballot”, he emphasized. The young ones were also cautioned to exhibit independence in thought and make sure the decision they reach behind the voting booth emanates from their own assessment of the candidates and not because they were told so by the people in their lives.
The students expressed profound gratitude to the Tolon District officers for such an impactful session and assured to pass on the message to their family and friends back at home for their benefit as well.
