The police is your friend: Youth in Ayawaso East encouraged to partner the police to promote peace ahead of the 2024 general election - NCCE

The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), in partnership with the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES) continued its public education campaign on political accountability at a townhall meeting with the youth in Nima at the St. Kizito Catholic Church. The programme with support from the USAID, aimed at equipping young people with the knowledge on how to avoid electoral violence and promote peace ahead of the 7th December General Election.

Mr. Mawuli Agbenu, the Greater Accra Regional Director of the NCCE admonished participants to be alert on the dangers of misinformation, disinformation and hate speech, which are often catalysts for unrest during elections. He stressed on the importance of the youth playing a constructive role in promoting peaceful elections, urging them to reject any form of violence.

ASP Asong Ayrakwa, the Nima District Police Commander, assured the youth that the Police are always committed to their safety. He encouraged them to view law enforcement agencies as their partners in ensuring a peaceful election. He also advised them to cast their votes based on candidates’ policies and not to be swayed by intimidation.

Dr. Imurana Mohammed, NCCE Director of Programmes urged participants to reject any attempts to incite chaos and to act responsibly as citizens.

The event was also attended by local leaders including the Ayawaso East Assemblyman Honourable Umar Sanda Mohammed and Nima East Assemblywoman Rukayatu Eliasu Yussif.
