Stakeholder engagement: NCCE meets GMA

As part of fostering relationships with stakeholders, management of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has paid a courtesy call to leadership of the Ghana Medical Association, which is the labour-union body of practicing medical and dentistry doctors.

The Commission is on a frantic and deliberate mission of engaging individuals, institutions, and organisations who constitute an integral part in the quest to live up to our mandate, as unambiguously stipulated in the 1992 fourth (4th) Republican Constitution of Ghana.

Chairman of the Commission and leader of the high-powered delegation, Ms. Kathleen Addy, stating the impetus of the visit, noted that the Commission, in observation of inclusivity, has strategically objectivized to engage the populace that form the middle-class and professionals, which include Civil Society Organisations, Labour Unions, and many others.

This, according to her, is one of the ways the Commission can engender collaborations with these key players in the system, adding that, “it is about time the Commission brought on board and leveraged the influence of all these stakeholders to move civic messages to every corner of the country”.

Welcoming management of the Commission, President of the Ghana Medical Association (GMA) Dr. (Med) Frank Serebour, on behalf of his team comprising of the Vice President, Prof. Dr. (Med) Ernest Yorke, Female Executive, Dr. (Med) Gladys Lomotey, and Assistant Secretary, Dr. (Med) Selorm Kutsoati, expressed contentment by the visit, indicating that GMA and NCCE can sustain a seamless partnership.

Reminiscing how the two parties joined forces in the fight against COVID-19, Dr. Serebour implied that the GMA can capitalize on the presence of the Commission in every district to embark on public education on health-related areas.

On the part of NCCE, it was revealed that the Commission has also initiated plans to plant a Civic Education Club in the Medical Schools across the country, an initiative the president of GMA endorsed, while promising the support of the Association during the process.

Curtains to the meeting were drawn with discussions on how both parties can sustain collaboration for the general good of Ghanaians. Accompanying the Chairman of NCCE were the Deputy in Charge of Operations, Mr. Samuel Asare Akuamoah, the Commission Secretary, Lawyer Mrs. Lucille Hewlett Annan, line directors, as well as the Greater Accra Regional Director.
