MTTD and NCCE Krachi East Municipal Join Forces to Promote Safer Roads For All

Krachi East Municipal office of the NCCE has partnered the Ghana Police Service’s Dambai Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) to educate students, particularly those in schools located along major roads in the municipality on road safety awareness. The initiative, conducted both in classrooms and at strategic roadside locations, sought to instill a culture of road safety among young students, equipping them with the knowledge needed to make informed decisions while crossing or using the road.

The joint effort focused on teaching basic road safety rules, pedestrian discipline, and the proper use of road infrastructure. The NCCE, leveraging on its civic education expertise, collaborated with the MTTD to provide practical road safety enforcement experience. As part of the programme, Inspector Zakaria Asharaf and General Lance Corporal (I) Emmanuel Owusu Ampong conducted practical demonstrations on safe road crossing techniques, the importance of traffic signs, and the shared responsibilities of pedestrians and drivers in ensuring road safety. They further added that it was absolutely wrong for pedestrians to judge the speed of oncoming vehicles when crossing roads as they can easily get knocked down if they are not vigilant. Additionally, Madam Sahadatu Salifu and Mr. Paul Datsomor, staff of the NCCE, educated the students on their rights and responsibilities as road users.

By taking road safety education beyond the classroom into real-life settings, the NCCE and MTTD aim to create a lasting impact on students, helping them develop habits that will keep them safe as they grow and become active road users. The collaboration highlights the importance of school engagements in promoting road safety and underscores the commitment of both institutions in fostering safer roads.
