The Garu NCCE office of the Upper East region engaged Junior High School students to expand their knowledge, deepen their understanding, and develop a strong foundation in constitutional principles. The schools visited include; Nomboko JHS, Presby JHS, and Sumaduri JHS. Other schools visited are Pialugo JHS, Naatey JHS, Garu Catholic JHS, Siisi JHS, Gbantarago JHS and Garu D/A JHS.
The District Director, Mr Akolgo Samuel explained that this forms part of NCCE's activities to ensure the preservation of democratic principles and the promotion of justice, equality, and freedom.
This knowledge, he reiterated, will empower citizens to practice democracy and uphold the principles of justice and equality. He said this engagement would help the youth gain a comprehensive understanding of the foundational principles, rights, and responsibilities. He further explained that the quizzes will not only assess their knowledge of the 1992 Constitution of Ghana but also challenge their faculties to be aware of the salient laws and responsibilities of our country, Ghana.
The quizzes were structured into main questions and true/false questions. Most of the teachers recommended the NCCE and said it has always been a reminder to them about the Constitution, which is the fundamental law of Ghana.
After the quizzes, Mr Akolgo encouraged the student body to learn the Constitution of Ghana so that they would grow to become responsible citizens and tackle the menace of corruption in the country.
Mr. Akolgo also sensitised the in-school youth on the upcoming District Level Elections (DLEs)on 19th December 2023. He encouraged the students to spread the messages of the DLEs to their parents to actively participate in the elections and to improve voter turnout.
The National Service Personnel, Mr. Jonas Ayamba took the students through domestic violence and spousal abuse as well as hate speech, disinformation, and misinformation. He encouraged participants to exercise and enjoy their civic rights and responsibility as good citizens. He admonished students not to engage in any form of abuse or violence.
