NCCE, Electoral Commission Engage St. Fidelis SHS Students on Electoral Processes

The Kwahu Afram Plains South District Office of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), in collaboration with the Electoral Commission, has engaged students of St. Fidelis Senior High School, Tease, on electoral processes and democratic governance.

The practical civic education exercise was held on 4th June 2026 during the school’s prefectship elections at the school premises. The engagement formed part of efforts to groom students and the youth in the district to understand democratic practices, electoral procedures, and the importance of peaceful participation in elections.

In his opening remarks, the District Director of the NCCE, Mr. Joseph Nyarko, sensitized the students on the various stages of the electoral process and the role elections play in strengthening democratic governance. He explained that elections are not only about choosing leaders, but also about exercising civic responsibility, respecting rules and accepting outcomes peacefully.

Mr. Nyarko encouraged the students to take the exercise seriously, noting that school elections provide an important platform for young people to learn the values of leadership, accountability, tolerance and active citizenship. He urged both aspirants and voters to demonstrate discipline, fairness and respect throughout the process.

The election process began at 12:00 noon and ended at 3:17 p.m. A total of 192 students cast their votes, while 22 aspirants contested for various leadership positions.

At the close of the exercise, Mr. Nyarko commended the students for their comportment and peaceful participation. He also encouraged them to apply the lessons learned during the exercise in their schools, communities and future civic engagements.

NCCE officers present at the programme included Mr. Prince Manu, Mr. Nicholas Asare, Mr. Rexford Asante and Mr. Yona Mireku.

The engagement reinforced the NCCE’s commitment to promoting civic education among young people and nurturing future citizens who understand electoral processes, democratic governance and responsible participation in national development.
