NCCE, CHRAJ and Social Welfare Sensitize Tailors on Child Protection

The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), in collaboration with the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) and the Social Welfare Department, has engaged members of the Asiakwa Ghana National Tailors and Dress-makers Association (GNTDA) on child protection issues.

Held at the Apostolic Church Hall in Asiakwa, the engagement focused on online child exploitation and abuse, domestic violence and child labour.

Facilitators for the programme included Juliet Oforiwaa Darko of the NCCE, Mr. Eric of CHRAJ, and Mr. Okuapa and Mr. Darko of the Social Welfare Department. They educated participants on the various forms and effects of online child exploitation and abuse, particularly the risks children face through inappropriate online content and interactions.

Attention was also drawn to the dangers of domestic violence and child labour, with emphasis on the responsibility of families and community members to protect the rights and wellbeing of children.

Participants were encouraged to remain vigilant and report suspected cases of abuse, exploitation and violence to the appropriate authorities for the necessary intervention.

Members of the GNTDA actively contributed to the discussion through questions and shared experiences relating to child protection and domestic violence within their communities.

Concluding the programme, facilitators called for sustained collaboration among community members, relevant institutions and other stakeholders to prevent child abuse and exploitation and promote a safer society for children.
