NCCE and Local Churches Organise Peace Walk in Asutifi South Ahead of 2024 Elections

The Asutifi South District Office of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), in collaboration with the Hwidiem Local Council of Churches, organized a peace walk through the main streets of Hwidiem as part of efforts to promote peaceful elections. The event, which involved various stakeholders, aimed to encourage peaceful coexistence and active civic participation before, during, and after the 2024 general elections.

Addressing participants, Ms. Georgina Agyeiwaa, the District Director of NCCE, underscored the importance of peace to Ghana’s democratic development. She urged voters to make independent and informed decisions without being swayed by material or monetary gifts from political parties. Ms. Agyeiwaa encouraged the electorate to vote in numbers for candidates capable of driving growth and progress in the constituency and beyond.

Contributions from key stakeholders included assurances of security from District Police Commander Supt. Paul A. Ankan, who vowed to deal with electoral misconduct decisively, and a pledge from the Electoral Officer to ensure a free and transparent process. NPP Parliamentary Candidate Hon. Yaw Owusu Brempong committed to fostering peace, while Very Rev. Ernest Oppong Koduah called on religious leaders to promote peace and maintain neutrality in political matters. The event saw participation from security agencies, students, church members, and the local community, all united by the shared goal of peaceful elections.
