Ms. Kathleen Addy, the newly appointed Chairman of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has formally addressed the staff of the Commission after being sworn in by the President of the Republic of Ghana, His Excellency Nana Akuffo Addo.
Present at the meetings were the Deputy Chairman in charge of Operations, Mr. Samuel Asare Akuamoah, the Commission Secretary; Mr. Tito Voegborlo, Heads of Departments, their Deputies, and the entire head office staff.
Ms. Kathleen Addy, gave a comprehensive introduction, detailing her experiences from childhood, inspiration, and dreams that have shaped the course of her life up until this moment.
She mentioned that she served in a women’s rights Institution as a Coordinator, interacting with and resolving cases of the vulnerable in society, especially abused children. Ms. Addy also worked with the Centre for Policy Analysis (CEPA) and the Centre for Democratic Development (CDD) where she was the Afro barometer Communications Officer for East and West Africa.
Ms. Addy stressed on the importance of being fulfilled in one’s work and learning life lessons that will contribute to the development of society, and consequently your personal development. She expressed her passion for the work of the NCCE. She commended all staff for their hard work, in spite of the challenges.
She remarked, “Nobody is born a good citizen or a patriot, they’re taught. Countries cannot build themselves; people do. We need to build citizens that build the country we desire”. She stated that all staff should see a vision of a better Ghana and run with that vision; have a philosophy of one team, one objective, and in so doing fish out and reward deserving workers and put laggards on their toes; reimagining civics, the goal of winning hearts and changing mindsets.
Lastly, she concluded by saying, “If we fail as a Commission, the country falls apart”. Ms. Addy admonished all to work assiduously to build a better Ghana, assured staff of her unwavering support and commitment, and thanked all staff present for honoring her invitation.
Deputy Chairman Operations, Mr. Samuel Asare Akuamoah encouraged staff to speak freely concerning issues that affect them, especially during such gatherings. He pledged his support and loyalty to the new Chairman and congratulated her once again.
