Garu District Holds Independence Day Quiz to Promote Civic Education

NCCE's Garu District office, in collaboration with the Ghana Education Service (GES), organised an inter-school quiz competition to mark Ghana’s 68th Independence Anniversary. Addressing participants, Mr. Akolgo Samuel, Garu District Director, emphasised the role of civic education in fostering patriotism and democratic values. He noted that such competitions align with the Commission’s 2025 theme: “Ghana’s Future: Our Collective Responsibility.”

The quiz, held at the Presbyterian Church Hall, featured students from Garu Catholic JHS, Presby JHS, Holy Angel JHS, and Garu D/A JHS. Contestants were tested on Ghana’s history, governance, the 1992 Constitution, and civic rights. Officials from the NCCE, GES, the Commission for Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), the National Youth Authority (NYA), teachers, and students attended the event.

At the end of the competition, Catholic JHS emerged as the winner with 36 points, followed by Presby JHS with 35 points, Holy Angel JHS with 32 points, and Garu D/A JHS with 28 points. Mr. Adalingea Christian Kwaku, Deputy Director of Supervision at GES, commended the students for their efforts and encouraged them to contribute meaningfully to national development. Winners received prizes, and all participating schools were recognised for their dedication to learning.
