BE RESILIENT TO EXTREMISM ACTS - NCCE TO THE YOUTH

The Bawku Municipal Office of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has engaged youth groups on the threat of violent extremism and terrorism. The engagement forms part of activities under the European Union-funded Preventing and Containing Violent Extremism (PCVE) project. Matters discussed were preventing and containing violent extremism, peace tolerance, unity, and social cohesion.

Speaking to the youth of Mognori, the Bawku Municipal Director of NCCE, Mr. Daniel Baya Laar, noted that violence and radicalization amongst the youth had become a major menace to the global community. He added that the youth is more vulnerable to extremist recruitment. He, therefore advised the participants to be resilient irrespective of their current situation. “Keep hope alive, it is better to be safe than be sorry” he stated. Mr. Laar encouraged them to live in peace with one another and be security conscious.

The Officer-In-Charge of Mognori Border Assistant Superintendent of Immigration (ASI) Akanbang Rockson, reiterated that activities of violent extremism had increased globally in recent times and the situation was threatening the peace of many nations and Ghana was no exception. He said marginalization, inequality, discrimination, and persecution, were among other factors identified to influence violent extremism in affected countries and said that the youth were mostly targeted.
