A four-member delegation from the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) Continental Secretariat in Johannesburg paid a working visit to the NCCE headquarters to strengthen collaborative relations with the Commission on May 10, 2018.
The Chairman of the NCCE, Ms. Josephine Nkrumah, in her welcome address expressed her gratitude to APRM for paying a working visit to the Commission and also their continuous support to the work of the Commission.
Ms. Nkrumah said that continuous partnership between both institutions has helped in fulfilling their mandates. This, she said was due to the fact that the mandates of both institutions are similar. The NCCE’s mandate is to sensitise Ghanaians on the civic rights and responsibility as well as educate citizens to deepen the culture of democracy, whiles the APRM’s objective is to encourage participating countries to ensure that government policies and practices conform to agreed political, economic, social and corporate governance values, codes and standards.
The Deputy Chairman of the NCCE in charge of Operations, Mr. Samuel Akuamoah indicated that the NCCE/APRM partnership at the district level is working to ensure that Ghanaians become responsible citizens to help build a strong, vibrant and democratic Ghana.
The Deputy Chairman of the APRM Continental Secretariat, Mr. Ibrahim Gambari, mentioned that Ghana was the first nation to volunteer to be assessed by stakeholders based on the principles of the APRM. Twenty-three (23) other countries have so far
acceded for the review. He emphasized the NCCE / APRM partnership would encourage citizens to participate in the democratic system.
Ms. Winniefred Asare from APRM Ghana thanked the Commission for its commitment to promote the work of the APRM.
