Ensuring the prevalence of peace after elections is as critical as the call for peace before and during the elections. It is on the back of this that the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has collaborated with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), purposed to promote post-election peace while observing responsible practices on the digital space.
Highlighting the need to maintain peace, Deputy Chair in Charge of Operations, Mr. Samuel Akuamoah, admonished the young ones to always make a conscious effort to prioritize Ghana in all their undertakings, adding, “This is the only country we can claim ownership to”.
Mr. Akuamoah, in his address, also touched on safety on the digital space. He cautioned the youth against the consumption and spreading of unverified content, stressing that it is expedient to fact-check any information received before accommodating the thought to share with another.
While urging the audience to make use of the digital platforms to foster unity, Mr. Akuamoah indicated that, beyond the possibility of facing a defamation law suit for spreading false information about an individual, the repercussions of sharing fake news could be more dire, revealing that it has the ability to tear a country apart.
The session was held at the Presbyterian Church in the capital of Awutu Senya East Municipality, Kasoa, as part of efforts to rid the minds of the gullible youth against tendencies to entertain post-election violence.
