A New Generation of Civic Champions: NCCE Inaugurates TACE Civic Education Club Executives

The inauguration ceremony, held at the TACE Assembly Hall, brought together students, members of the Civic Education Club, outgoing executives, and staff of the NCCE Regional Office. The ceremony was led by the NCCE Tamale Regional Director, Alhaji Aliyu Mohammed.

Addressing the gathering, Alhaji Aliyu Mohammed challenged the newly inaugurated executives to see their positions not merely as leadership roles, but as an opportunity to become ambassadors of democracy, peace and good governance within their college and communities.

He noted that the Civic Education Club serves as an important platform for nurturing young people who understand and uphold the values of patriotism, tolerance, the rule of law and active citizenship, as enshrined in the 1992 Constitution of Ghana.

“The future of our democracy lies in your hands,” he told the executives, urging them to educate their peers on their rights and responsibilities, counter misinformation and contribute to strengthening social cohesion.

With the administration of the NCCE Civic Education Pledge, the new executives formally committed themselves to promoting civic awareness among students, in their communities and across Ghana.

The ceremony subsequently moved beyond formalities into an interactive session, where students engaged NCCE officials on issues concerning constitutional rights, citizens’ duties and strategies for combating fake news. Their questions and contributions highlighted the growing need for young people to be equipped with the knowledge and critical thinking skills necessary to participate meaningfully in Ghana’s democratic process.

The programme ended with expressions of appreciation from the students, who called for more NCCE educational programmes at the college.

The inauguration therefore marked not just the beginning of a new tenure for the Civic Education Club executives, but another step towards building a generation of informed, responsible and active citizens committed to protecting Ghana’s democracy.
