The NCCE engages the APC in peace discussions as election 2024 approaches

The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has engaged the leader of the All People’s Congress (APC), Dr. Hassan Ayariga during a consultative visit to their head office in Accra. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss collaborations and promote the message of peace among APC followers, especially among the youth at all levels of governance.

The Chairman of the Commission, Ms. Kathleen Addy briefed the party members on the structure, mandate and focal areas of the NCCE, highlighting the need for citizens to know and understand the 1992 Constitution and the message of peace and security. She explained the strategies for district-specific engagements and the insulation of the Commission from direct government interference. “This year, our programmes are youth-focused because of their vulnerability and poverty”, she added.

The Director of Programmes, NCCE, Dr. Imurama Mohammed stressed the Commission’s outlined activities and plans to secure collaborations at all levels of governance. One of such activities, he said, is the Inter-Party Dialogue Committee (IPDC) meetings where early warning signs of electoral violence are identified and tensions diffused.

The founder and leader of the ACP, Dr. Hassan Ayariga, assured the Commission of his support, including platforms in delivering civic engagements to sustain Ghana’s democracy. He mentioned how crucial the work of the Commission is, in sanitising the activities of political parties in the country, organising presidential and parliamentary debates and voter apathy.

Dr. Ayariga expressed his concern for vote-buying. He said politics has now become a game of buying and selling instead of the appreciation of ideas that would transform into building and maintaining a democratic Ghana. He urged Ghanaians to give all political parties equal opportunities to serve Ghana. “As a people, we should be careful of religious interference and manipulation”, he added.

Also present were the Deputy Chairman, Operations; the Deputy Chairman in Charge of General Services, as well as head office Directors, the Greater Accra Regional Director and executives of the ACP.
