The call for Nation-Building must be Honoured by all well-meaning Citizens – NCCE

Greater Accra Regional Deputy Director of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), Mrs. Gloria Kudo, has rallied all well-meaning citizens to see the course of nation-building as an all-hands-on-deck venture and not just the reserve of government and members of the political class.

She made this passionate call during an outreach programme with members of the Dansoman Glefe Tailors and Dressmakers’ Association as part of post-election-related activities embarked upon by staff of the Commission.

According to Mrs. Kudo, orchestrating or facilitating violence either before, during, or after elections hurts none other than our very selves, as citizens, underscoring that such situations only stall development. “Monies that could have been invested in infrastructures such as roads, hospitals, state-of-the-art markets, among others, would rather be diverted towards bringing finality to the violent situation”, she stressed.

The Deputy Director additionally advised members of the Association to be tolerant of the views of others, even if they hold a dissenting opinion. Highlighting Ghana’s hospitality, she intimated, that is what defines us as a people.

While citing the case of the Liberian civil war, she emphasised, “the Liberians were fortunate we opened our doors to them and have since found a refuge here, but as Ghanaians, we cannot be guaranteed to be that lucky in other jurisdictions, should we entertain disturbances to degenerate into civil war”; adding, “that is why we must strive to safeguard the peace we enjoy with all our might and power”.

Meanwhile, the participants indicated on the sidelines their gratitude to NCCE for the regular engagements with them, alluding that fallouts of such engagements have been guiding their journey to becoming patriotic citizens of the country.
