The Tano North Office of the NCCE, as part of the intensification of the DLEs sensitization campaign, engaged Muslims in Duayaw Nkwanta, the seat of the Tano North Municipal Asset during their Friday prayers from 1:20 pm – 2:00 pm.
The NCCE officers were led by Mr. Francis Datsomor Mensah (ACEO), Kennedy Appiah (CFO), and Douglas Sarfo (NSS).
Mr Francis Datsomor Mensah admonished the congregation to exercise their civic rights by participating and voting in the upcoming District Level Elections to help shape local governance.
He tasked them to turn out in their numbers to break the low record of participation during the District Level Elections. He said that in 2019, the turnout was around 33%, but hoped that this time around, based on the extensive and vigorous public education undertaken by the NCCE, the turnout is expected to increase and that the Tano North Municipality cannot afford to be amongst the lowest districts in the Country.
Mr Francis Datsomor Mensah took the Muslims through Section 16 of the Local Governance Act, 2016 (Act 936) and tasked them to vote for any incumbent Assembly Member who is seeking re-election based on the provisions in Act 936 of (2016).
The congregation was happy to know the provisions in the Local Governance Act 2016, (Act 936) and call for NCCE to do the same next year when it comes to Presidential and Parliamentary elections so that they can assess their Member of Parliament on her role as a Parliamentarian.
Mr Datsomor appeals to the worshippers to encourage their family members, friends, and fellow workers to go to the polling stations and cast their votes on Tuesday, 19th December 2023 from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm to demonstrate that they are good and law-abiding citizens.
