PHOTOS: Offinso NCCE kick-starts 2022 Citizenship week celebration

The Offinso Municipal Directorate of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has kick start this year’s annual citizenship week celebration which is under the theme ‘Sustaining our democracy, Ghanaian Values in practice: The role of the Child’, in the Offinso Municipality, Purefmonline.com reports.

The event which was commenced by the Directorate on Thursday 26, May 2022 saw to the NCCE having educational talks with some 30 selected basic schools in the Municipality.

The beneficiary schools which included Offinso State ‘A’- Newtown, Offinso State ‘B’-Asamankama, Offinso State ‘C’-Agyiempra, Nasr Deen Islamic –Saboa, Offinso Training College basic school, Kokote Methodist, Kokote M/A and Namong M/A basic schools amongst others had officials of the NCCE, educating the students on the role of the Ghanaian Child and instilling in them the Ghanaian values.

The weeklong celebration spans through the period of May 26 to June 1, 2022.

Mr. Emmanuel Oduro, the Municipal Director of the NCCE in the Offinso Municipality in an exclusive interview with Purefmonline.com explained that “The chosen theme is to instill in the child our Ghanaian values such as patriotism, nationhood and to promote unity and national cohesion among Ghanaian youth so as to become good citizens in future.”

He continued that the Commission seeks to organize the week’s activities under its continuous drive to catch them young.

“As part of our strategy in this year’s celebration, like you can rightly observe, we have begun involving people in leadership positions and prominent persons with right standing in our society to interact with the young ones and impact in them the virtues of patriotism and good citizenship and also, act as role models and mentors to these young ones”.

“These young ones were made to understand that as a child, in as much as the Constitution guarantee them so many rights they also have an important role play in the development of the country thereby contributing to the sustenance of our fragile democracy. They have been taken through the responsibilities/duties of the child as citizens of Ghana enshrined in Article 41 of the 1992 Constitution to respect the National symbols and institutions such as flag of Ghana, National Anthem and many others.

We have also taught them of the need for them to participate in National assignments such as national immunization and communal labour, to abstain from hard drugs and alcohol as children, to encourage their parents to pay and file their tax returns, to protect and safeguard the environment and to amongst others, report crime in and around their community.” Mr. Emmanuel Oduro, the Municipal Director of the NCCE in the Offinso Municipality stated.

The programme was highly participated with meaningful contributions from the pupils and teachers as well. A head teacher, Mr. Antwi Mensah Francis commended the NCCE for selecting their school in this year’s Citizenship Week Celebration. He thanked the organizers of the programme and appealed to the Commission include motivated items in its subsequent programmes.
