The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) in collaboration with the National Secretariat of the Public Services Workers Union (PSWU) of TUC (Ghana organized an educational programme on the COVID-19 vaccines for the National Executive Council (NEC) members at the Public Services Union Centre, Adiembra - Kumasi. The programme was coordinated by Ms. Gladys Osman, National Vice Chairperson of PSWU and Deputy Director, Programmes.
The facilitator, Dr. Anthony Enimil, an Infectious Disease Specialist with the Ghana Health Services (GHS), took the NEC members through the basic information on the history and symptoms of the virus, benefits of vaccines, processes vaccines go through before approval, current vaccines approved for use, adverse events following vaccination, factors influencing a person’s reaction to vaccines, other preventive measures and the approach to community engagement.
Dr. Enimil admonished NEC members to be careful with fake news and videos about the vaccines circulating on various social media platforms. He further charged the NEC members to be proactive and give truthful and accurate information about the vaccines.
