The Krachi East Directorate of the National Commission for Civic Education has engaged members of the Civic Education Club and students of Oti Senior High/Technical School on the rule of law, ethical leadership, and the fight against corruption.
The civic education programme was held on Wednesday, 20th May 2026, at the assembly grounds of Oti Senior High/Technical School in the Krachi East District of the Oti Region. In his welcome address, the Krachi East District Director of the NCCE, Mr. Clement Kwesi Mamadu, reminded the students that integrity, accountability, and respect for the rule of law are essential to building a strong democracy. He encouraged them to embrace civic responsibility and prepare themselves to become responsible future leaders.
Mr. Mamadu explained that the rule of law and anti-corruption engagement formed part of efforts to promote accountability and integrity among young people. He noted that the project was supported by GIZ and co-funded by the European Union.
Setting the tone for the programme, the Oti Regional Director of the NCCE, Nana Boame Robert, outlined the purpose of the initiative. He explained that the project seeks to empower young people to participate actively in governance and become advocates for transparency and accountability in their schools and communities. He further stated that corruption undermines development, weakens public institutions, and erodes citizens’ trust in governance.
Nana Boame urged the students to see themselves as agents of change with a duty to promote honesty, discipline, and responsible citizenship. According to him, young people must be encouraged to understand the dangers of corruption early so they can help build a society grounded in integrity and respect for lawful authority.
The main presentation was delivered by the Oti Regional Director of the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice, Mr. Joshua Borah. His presentation focused on ethical leadership, conflict of interest, and influence peddling. He cautioned against the misuse of public office for personal gain and emphasised that ethical leadership is necessary for justice, fairness, and national development.
Mr. Borah encouraged the students to uphold transparency, reject corrupt practices, and demonstrate courage in standing for what is right. He noted that the active involvement of young people is important in strengthening Ghana’s democratic future and promoting a culture of accountability.
The programme ended with closing remarks from Mr. Mamadu, who reaffirmed the NCCE’s commitment to continuous civic education. He encouraged the students to serve as ambassadors of integrity and to share the message that corruption must be resisted at all levels of society.
The engagement formed part of the NCCE’s broader mission to instil civic values in young people and prepare them to safeguard Ghana’s democracy through accountability, respect for the rule of law, and commitment to the fight against corruption.
