NCCE Jirapa Sensitises Faith Based Groups on Responsible Digital Citizenship

The National Commission for Civic Education has intensified advocacy for responsible digital citizenship as part of activities marking this year’s Constitution Week Celebration.

In line with this effort, the Jirapa Municipal Office of the Commission engaged congregants of Ultimate Rhemah Ministry Church and Deeper Life Bible Ministry Church on how citizens can conduct themselves responsibly in the digital space.

The engagements were held under the theme, “Upholding Our Constitution in a Digital Age: Our Collective Responsibility.” They sought to promote awareness of citizens’ rights and responsibilities online, while encouraging the protection of Ghana’s democratic values in an era of rapid digital communication.

Participants were educated on the dangers of misinformation and disinformation, particularly their ability to create fear, confusion, mistrust, and division within society. They were encouraged to verify information before sharing it on social media and other digital platforms.

NCCE officials also urged congregants to use social media as a tool for promoting peace, national unity, truth, and constructive public engagement. They reminded participants that responsible online conduct is an important part of good citizenship and that digital platforms should not be used to spread falsehood, abuse, hatred, or content that undermines social cohesion.

Beyond digital responsibility, the officials emphasised the importance of tolerance and respect for diverse faiths and opinions. They noted that peaceful coexistence is essential in workplaces, homes, religious spaces, and communities, and must be protected by all citizens.

The engagements reinforced the Commission’s commitment to promoting civic responsibility within communities and strengthening the values of democracy, respect, unity, and responsible citizenship.

Participants were reminded that safeguarding Ghana’s democracy in the digital age is a shared duty. Responsible online behaviour, the NCCE stressed, is not only a personal choice, but also a collective responsibility for national peace, stability, and development.
