NCCE intensifies education on signs of terrorism

The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) in the Kassena Nankana West District has engaged the clients of the National Identification Authority (NIA) on the early warning signs of terrorism.

An Assistant Civic Education Officer, Mr. Pasiba Williams made reference to a statement issued by the Ministry of National Security cautioning Ghanaians of possible threats of terrorist attack in Ghana. Reports say eight soldiers were killed in Togo and hundreds more in Burkina Faso in the Northern Border with Mali in recent times. The report said the conflict in Bawku is a catalyst for the infiltration of terrorists from neighboring Burkina Faso.

The participants were educated on early warning signs of terrorism which included surveillance, elicitation; tests of security; suspicious transactions involving large cash payments; purchasing explosives, weapons, ammunition, and impersonation. Citizens were asked to be security conscious and look out for suspicious characters when in public places such as markets, churches, mosques, lorry stations, and workplaces.

Present was the District Director of the National Identification Authority (NIA) for Kassena Nankana West District, Mr. Azulirah Gabriel. He was grateful to the NCCE for alerting them of the possible terrorist attacks and the early warning signs. He also urged the participants to report any foreigner who comes to register for the Ghana Card. He added that nobody should also bring or aid any foreigner to come into the country for the registration exercise or otherwise. “If you are caught, the law will deal with you,” he remarked.

Mr. Pasiba Williams concluded by admonishing citizens to live together in peace no matter the differences in tribes, religion, and political party affiliations.
