The National Commission for Civic Education has inaugurated a Civic Education Club (CEC) at the University of Media, Arts and Communication (UniMAC), Dzorwulu, as part of efforts to strengthen civic consciousness, leadership, and democratic participation among students.
The inauguration was part of a symposium held on 26th May 2026, which brought together students, academics, and Commission officials to discuss civic values, leadership, corruption, and responsible citizenship.
Speaking at the symposium, Dr Daniel Appiah stressed the importance of leadership and civic responsibility, noting that effective leadership must be grounded in truth, integrity, and knowledge of the laws governing society. He encouraged the newly inaugurated club to go beyond constitutional education by advocating for students' rights and well-being on campus.
Also addressing participants, Dr Godwin Etse Sikanku underscored the need for strong civic values in building a democratic and progressive nation. He urged young people to actively participate in civic discourse respectfully and constructively, without resorting to insults and divisive rhetoric.
Chairing the programme, the Chairperson of the NCCE, Madam Kathleen Addy, highlighted the importance of transparency, fairness, and due process in combating corruption and building a just society. She described the Civic Education Club as an important platform for shaping mindsets and empowering young people to become agents of positive change within their communities.
The Deputy Chairman in charge of General Services, Lawyer Victor Brobbey, officially inaugurated the six-member executive of the UniMAC Civic Education Club to champion civic education and advocacy on campus.
Also present at the event were the Director of Programmes, Dr Imurana Mohammed, and the Director of Communications and Corporate Affairs, Madam Rita Ofosua Amparbin.
The inauguration forms part of NCCE’s broader efforts to deepen civic awareness and nurture responsible citizens committed to democratic governance and national development.
