The Oyibi Zonal Office of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) in the Kpone Katamanso Municipality has engaged pupils of Eben Joy School as part of activities marking the 2026 World Environment Day celebration.
The engagement was held under the theme, “Climate Action,” with the slogan, “Inspired by Nature, For Climate, For Our Future.”
During the program, pupils were educated on the causes and effects of climate change, including floods, drought, deforestation, and pollution, and how these continue to negatively affect the environment, individuals, and the economy.
The pupils were also sensitized on their civic responsibilities as enshrined in Article 41(k) of the 1992 Constitution of Ghana, which enjoins citizens to protect and safeguard the environment.
Officials from the NCCE encouraged the pupils to adopt environmentally friendly practices such as proper waste management, tree planting, and maintaining responsible lifestyles that promote environmental sustainability.
The Commission further urged the pupils to become ambassadors of change within their communities by setting good examples and promoting positive environmental practices wherever they find themselves.
The engagement forms part of the NCCE’s efforts to promote environmental awareness and encourage active citizenship among school children.
