The Effia-Kwesimintsim Municipal Directorate of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has organised a quiz competition for four selected schools within the area as part of this year’s Independence Day celebrations.
The Reverend Dunwell Methodist Junior High School (JHS), Rev Grant Methodist JHS, Rev Cobbah Yalley JHS, and Nana Brempong Yaw III Memorial JHS Complex participated in the contest.
It was on the theme "Ghana's Future: Our Collective Responsibility” and attended by some officials from the Western Regional Directorate of the NCCE, the Effia-Kwesimintsim Municipal Education Office, the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), other heads of departments, teachers, and pupils from the participating school schools, among others.
At the end of the contest, Rev Dunwell Methodist Junior High School (JHS) emerged winners, the Rev Grant Methodist JHS placed second, the Rev Cobbah Yalley JHS came third, and Nana Brempong Yaw III Memorial JHS Complex placed last.
All four schools were awarded with certificates of recognition, books, pens, mathematical sets, sets of rulers, files, and shorthand notebooks.
Mr. Yusif Usman, the Acting Effia-Kwesimintsim Municipal Director of NCCE, said the quiz competition was to instill a sense of nationalism and acquaint the students with the content of the 1992 Constitution.
He said: “The quiz is part of the NCCE’s strategies to get students at the basic level to learn and better understand the contents of the 1992 Constitution while having fun.”
According to him, the contest was also to educate them on their duties as citizens as enshrined in the 1992 Constitution, the history of Ghana, current affairs, and values of good governance.
Mr. Usman encouraged the students to take keen interest in national issues and be responsible and law-abiding citizens to help build a better country for all.
