Do Not Share Sensual Pictures or Videos of Yourself with Anyone - NCCE Cautions Students

The District Office of the NCCE in Upper Manya Krobo - Asesewa (Eastern Region) together with the Asesewa Pre-group of Amnesty International Ghana has collaborated with the National and the Eastern Regional office of Amnesty International Ghana to organise an activity for some forty (40) students of the Asesewa Senior High school on the topic, Online Sexual Harassment after which an Amnesty International club was formed.

The Eastern Regional Coordinator of Amnesty International Ghana, Mr. Samed, in his introductory speech, said, the organisation has and is playing a major role in ensuring human rights and freedoms for all. He affirmed that though Amnesty Int. strongly advocates for human rights and freedoms, human rights are not absolute. The rights holder has a reciprocal responsibility to protect others, he said.

The District Director of NCCE in the Upper Manya Krobo District, Mr. Eric Kwasi Yanney, cautioned the students to desist from keeping sensual pictures and videos of themselves on their mobile phones since they can be used against them if they land in the hands of unscrupulous persons and many end up on the internet. He also entreated students to be careful when engaging strangers online and desist from joining online dating sites and groups that discuss sensuality.

Mr Yanney cautioned students to report to the Commission of Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) and the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVSU) of the Ghana Police Service if they feel threatened to share sensual images or videos of themselves online.

Also present were Mr. Isaac Nartey (Principal Civic Education Officer), Wisdom T. Korletey (Civic Education Officer), Aseye Jiagge (Assistant Civic Education Officer), and Grace Lartey (Principal Field Officer).
