REFLECT ON CORE VALUES IN THE NATIONAL PLEDGE AND NATIONAL ANTHEM - NCCE

The E.P. Basic School at Kade in the Kwaebbirem municipality of the Eastern Region has been engaged by the staff of the National Commission for Civic Education on national values and good citizenship. The Municipal Director, Mrs. Gertrude Adwoa Defoe, and Mr. Godfred Annobel, Civic Field Officer led the team from NCCE.

The Headmistress of the school, Mrs. Elizabeth Asumadu warmly received the team and commended them for their regular visits to the school to carry out various civic education programmes.

Mrs. Defoe asked the students to recite the National Pledge as well as sing the first stanza of the Ghana National Anthem. She highlighted certain keywords and phrases from both the National Pledge and National Anthem. She said the National Anthem and the National Pledge identify us as Ghanaians. She emphasized words in the National Pledge such as honour, faithful, loyal, service of Ghana, hold in high esteem our heritage, and defend the good name of Ghana. And in the National Anthem, words like true humility, fearless and honesty.

Mrs. Dufie pointed out that the recitation of the National Pledge as well as the singing of the National Anthem is to help them remember on daily bases to walk and live by the principles and core values espoused in the National Pledge and Anthem.

Mrs. Dufie spoke on the need to uphold the value of integrity as young students in their dealings both in school and as citizens of Ghana. She gave an impressive presentation on the core values of the National Anthem and explained them with the appropriate real-life examples.
