CHILDREN HAVE RIGHTS, LET’S PRIORITISE THEM - NCCE

The Kadjebi District Office of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has embarked on a sensitization programme to educate community members in the district on child protection issues. Speaking to members of the Bible Believers Fellowship at Kadjebi in the Oti Region, An Assistant Civic Education Officer, Ms. Emelda Nana Ama Amankwa appealed to citizens to help protect the Ghanaian child from neglect, violence, abuse, and discrimination on the grounds of race, age, religion, disability, health status, custom, ethnic origin and among others.

According to Ms. Amankwa, citizens have rights and freedoms enshrined in the 1992 Constitution. She highlighted the need to create a safe and accommodating environment for all to realise their full potential. She touched on the fundamental human rights provisions in the 1992 Constitution, especially for children. She mentioned the right to free and compulsory education, the right to non-discrimination, and the right to adequate infrastructure, among others. She called on parents to help realise these provisions. ‘Invest heavily in the education of their ward because it was the foundation for great accomplishment’, she added.

Mrs. Mary Kpetigo, the wife of the Pastor of Bible Believers Fellowship commended the NCCE for the insightful education and requested regular engagements. Similar programmes were held at Dika, Mangoase, Dzindziso, and Mempeasem, among other communities.
