The National Commission for Civic Education, NCCE, has been in the Upper East Regional capital, Bolgatanga, dialoguing with youth groups, political actors, community influencers, students, security experts and personnel, religious leaders, Chiefs, and other key stakeholders on how we can prevent the radicalisation of the youth in the wake of coup d'etats in the sub-region.
The engagement was very successful with speakers and participants calling for more public awareness targetting youth groups.
The event was made possible with funding support from the European Union under the Preventing and Containing Violent Extremism project. The targetted regions under the PCVE project are Upper East, Upper West, North East, Savannah, Bono, Bono East, Northern, and Oti Regions.
The NCCE since the launch of its Baseline study on PCVE has amplified public education and community engagement on violent extremism in these regions.
Dialogues such as what happened in Bolgatanga have also been rolled out to involve the public and solicit their views on how we can collectively prevent and contain violent extremism in Ghana.
The NCCE continues to call on the general public to be vigilant and provide useful information on activities that have the potential to strengthen state security.
