The Kwahu-South District Office of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE|) has visited a number of schools in the municipality to intensify education on the need to safeguard the environment. The move is part of the Commission’s public education efforts to promote environmental governance.
Article 41 of the 1992 Constitution of Ghana states that it is the duty of every citizen of Ghana to protect and safeguard the environment. The team from NCCE visited the schools during their worship hours to educate them on protecting and safeguarding the environment.
The education covered the topic; What an Environment Is, Bad Practices That Destroys the Environment, Practices to Safeguard the Environment and The Need to Protect the Environment.
Civic Education Officer, Benjamin Baah, for the district admonished pupils to play an active role in protecting and safeguarding the environment as part of their duties as citizens of Ghana so as to live an exemplary life in the society.
He further gave safety tips to pupils to ensure they safely navigate the dry season. The pupils were advised not to play with match sticks and lighters, conserve electricity by turning off lights when leaving their rooms at home, etc. additionally, they were told to inform their parents to change LPG regulators when there is a leakage and also hire qualified electricians for wiring, etc.
Mr. Baah also gave out the Mpraeso Fire Service Hot Lines and cautioned pupils to call only when there is a fire outbreak.
The team wrapped up the education by teaching them the slogan” Protecting the Environment Starts with You”.
