Report suspected criminals to police service to avoid violent extremism – NCCE’s SR Director

The Savannah regional director of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), Mr. Issaka Zito is urging citizens of Savannah region and Ghana to report suspected criminals to the security agencies as part of activities to help curb violent extremism in the country.

Violent extremism is a form of extremism that condones and enacts violence with ideological or deliberate intent, such as religious or political violence. Violent extremist views can manifest in connection with a range of issues, including politics, religion and gender relations, according to wikipedia.

Mr. Zito added that as part of the NCCE’s nationwide activities to help curb violent extremism, his outfit has embarked on youth engagement sessions across the country.

As such, the Savannah regional NCCE directorate commenced its activities at the North East Gonja district on Tuesday, 14th September, 2021.

Mr. Zito told Radio PAD’s Abdulai Nuhu Zulka on Kareyanch3 Super Morning Show, Damongo, that participants at the youth engagement in the North East Gonja district were educated on actors of violent extremism, their strategies for recruitment, activities and how citizens could counter strategies of these extremists through making reports to the security agencies and other stakeholders in society.
Citizens were also encouraged to promote National Cohesion and peaceful coexistence to promote community growth and development.

The Covid-19 pandemic in Ghana has so far infected 123,874 persons. Out of these persons, 117,892 have been treated and discharged with 1,098 deaths recorded. Active cases in the country are currently over 4,000.

Mr. Saaka Zito reiterated that Covid-19 is real and the public must keep adhering to the laid down protocols to help control its spread in the region and the country at large. He urged Ghanaians to go for the Covid-19 jab to protect themselves and others from contracting the disease.
