Practice Ghanaian values-NCCE urges citizens

The Garu District Office of the Upper East Region has engaged tailors/dressmakers’ apprentices and their parents at a mass graduation ceremony on the theme: “Sustaining Our Democracy: Ghanaian Values in Practice”. The engagement was part of activities by the NCCE to promote and sustain Ghana’s democratic governance.

The District Director, Mr Akolgo Samuel Atando engaged tailors/dressmakers on values of a citizen namely: Integrity, discipline, hard work, patriotism, and punctuality. He explained that these core values are important elements of behavioural change and national development, a sound value system, and acceptable moral/ethical standards among the citizenry to create more civil and democratic societies.

Mr. Akolgo explained that Ghanaian values in practice means all citizens must perform their duties and obligations to the State and fellow citizens. He expatiated on violent extremism that, we have different religions, different cultures, different ethnic groups and even different political backgrounds. ‘We are one people and one nation built on strong values of peace and national cohesion, in spite of our individual differences. Our diversity makes us unique; we may speak in different languages, belong to different ethnic groups but unity and diversity is our strength. Ghana can only develop if we work together to help her grow.’

He, therefore, encouraged citizens to report suspicious characters who seek to undermine Ghana’s peace and national cohesion to the law enforcement agencies and community leaders; join watchdog committee to help secure our communities; watch out for suspicious characters who are not known in the community and check the facts before reporting. He also remarked that Ghana’s security is every citizen’s business and as such, we should be concerned and stand for peace; keep the environment clean; protect the environment and national property; respect the rights of others; respect the national flag, respect authorities; know and understand the national Anthem and Pledge; obey laws and rules, and volunteer during community development projects.

He encouraged the graduates who are now going out to establish their shops to endeavour to:

  • deliver quality service and be truthful so that you will win the confidence of your customers
  • offer best training techniques to their apprentices appointed
  • be sincere, honest and render good services to your clients so that you will be able to plough back your profit to expand your business.
  • be committed and display a high level of professionalism in your work.
  • endeavour to honour your tax obligation to enable Assembly to raise funds for development.
  • be committed to the welfare and development of your apprentices and live-in harmony with them.

Mr. Akolgo also reinforced that all citizens must re-register their SIM cards to secure their SIM and stay connected, discourage fraudulent and criminal activities and secure SIM card-based transactions. He urged citizens to be patriotic.
