The 2020 General Election is fast approaching and all election stakeholders are warming up and getting ready for December, 7. We at the NCCE have also intensified civic and voter education nationwide. One relevant activity by the Commission during every election year is what it calls 'Stakeholder Consultations with Political Parties and Presidential Candidates'.
Officials from NCCE, led by the Chairman, Ms. Josephine Nkrumah have paid a courtesy call on the National Democratic Congress, NDC, to share with the party the Commission's scheduled civic education activities and programmes for the 2020 Presidential and Parliamentary election. The Commission will continue to carry out similar consultations with other political parties. The Commission appealed to the NDC to preach peace and contribute to a violence-free general election. The NCCE also entreated them to champion issue-based political campaigns.
The NDC team led by its General Secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketia gave the assurance that the NDC will support and participate in all voter education activities intended to ensure a free, fair, transparent, and successful general election. The party tabled some concerns about voter education urging the Commission to intensify public outreaches to whip up voter enthusiasm.
