NCCE takes proactive steps to entrench peace in Ahanta West

The Ahanta West Municipal Directorate of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) in the Western Region has organised an Inter-Party Dialogue Committee (IPDC) meeting to discuss strategies to ensure the maintenance of peace before, during and after the 2024 upcoming General elections.

The gathering provided a platform for participants from different institutions to dialogue and forge collaborations in addressing electoral concerns, promote tolerance, and alleviate potential conflicts within the district.

Mr. John Agyare, the MCE of the Ahanta West Municipal Assembly (AWMA), representatives from political parties, security services, the Electoral Commission, traditional and religious leaders, and persons with disabilities (PWDs), among other interest groups, attended the meeting.

Mr. Agyare advised that the various political parties should ensure peace and unity among themselves.

He added that Ahanta West, in its entire existence had maintained its peace at every election and this year’s should be no exception.

The MCE further advised the media to be circumspect in its reportage and be mindful of negative consequences of mis/disinformation so as not to cause chaos and violence in the upcoming polls.

The Chief Commander of the Agona Police Circuit, DSP Valentine Akposu praised the political parties for maintaining peace during the registration and other electoral processes.

He spoke against partisan politics and the need for the various parties to educate their members and faithful against defacing posters and destruction of party banners, among others.

Mrs. Faustina Koranteng, the Ahanta West Municipal Director, said it was the Commission’s mandate to institute proactive measures to foster a peaceful election and ensure political stability.

She urged all stakeholders to raise awareness on collaboration to protect the peace and stability of the country during the electioneering period.
