NCCE STAFF CHARGED TO EXECUTE THEIR WORK WITH PROFESSIONALISM DEVOID OF PARTISANSHIP

The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) Deputy Chairman of Operations, Mr. Samuel Asare Akuamoah has charged staff of the Commission to execute their work with professionalism devoid of partisanship. Mr. Akuamoah made these comments at the closing ceremony of the third batch of training of trainers’ workshop for NCCE District Directors and NABCO Regional Monitors and Coordinators on 8th February 2020, at Pepease, Kwahu in the Eastern region. He encouraged the NCCE Directors and NABCO staff to do a good collaboration to deepen the Ghanaian values in the citizenry through their field of work and put the interest of the country first in all things. Participants were schooled on topics including National Core Values, Public Engagement, and Delivery, Values Education and Problem Solving Techniques.

Among the facilitators were Dr. Kwashie, Registrar of Global Theological Seminary, Adentan, Accra, Director of CCA (NCCE) Mrs. Joyce Afutu, Director of Programmes (NCCE) Mr. Johnson Opoku, Commission Secretary (NCCE) Mr. Kojo Tito Voegborlo and Director of Research, Gender and Equality (NCCE) Dr. Henrietta Asante-Sarpong.

Dr. Kwashie took participants through values education and problem-solving techniques. Participants were made to understand that values are made up of many types namely social, traditional, economic, religious, cultural, family, national, and global among others. Problem-solving he said must be mostly done in a participatory manner which must involve all stakeholders in order for the solutions that come out to be a collective one. With this approach, problems are well handled and managed. The speaker stated that without instilling good values in people, it becomes difficult for them to live up to expectations. He, therefore, reiterated the need to deepen and instill values in the citizenry through civic education to engender the necessary action that has to happen for a better Ghana.

NCCE Directors of CCA, Programmes, and Research, Gender, and Equality in their presentation on values looked at the working definition of values, why the interest in values, definition of core values, core values and their interrelationship with other values, the relevance of values to NABCo, practical session and practical application of knowledge after training. The speakers made reference to national instruments including the 1992 Constitution, the National Pledge, the National Anthem and patriotic songs like “Arise Ghana Youth for your Country”, “Yen Ara Ya Saase Ni” and other are means of instilling or educating citizens on Ghanaian values intended to engender the spirit of patriotism and nationalism.

Mr. Tito took the participants through public engagement and delivery which involved the art of public speaking and delivery. He spoke on the choice of words, how, and when to stress on words during speech delivery to sustain the attention of the audience.
