NCCE RECEIVES COPIES OF THE 1992 CONSTITUTION FROM THE UNIVERSITY OF EDUCATION, WINNEBA

The University of Education, Winneba, (UEW) has presented two hundred (200) pocket-sized copies of the 1992 Constitution to the National Commission for Civic Education, NCCE. The gesture follows a request from the Effutu NCCE Municipal Office to the University.

The Pro-Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Andy Ofori-Birikorang emphasized the role of NCCE in nation-building. He expressed sentiments on the fact that the role and importance of NCCE has been marginalized in the country. He said the effects of this marginalization are dire and urged Ghanaians and policymakers to support the Commission to deliver civic education to citizens. He much-admired the Commission for the opportunity given to the University to support Civic Education activities, especially in schools.

Prof. Birikorang assured Ms. Josephine Nkrumah and the NCCE of the University’s readiness to support the NCCE and Ministry of National Security’s campaign on national cohesion.

The Chairperson of NCCE, Ms. Josephine Nkrumah thanked the University for the support given to the Effutu NCCE Office. She said this will go a long way to intensify civic education activities and constitutional education in the Municipality and among students of the University. She indicated that ‘the NCCE is grateful to the University authorities for allocating free media airtime on Radio Windy Bay to reach out to the University community and citizens within the Effutu Municipality. Two hours in a week. This is indeed commendable’.

Ms. Josephine Nkrumah mentioned that the Commission is working towards receiving more logistics, to be able to reach out to every citizen in Ghana with real-time civic education messages.

As part of her visit to the Effutu Municipality, Ms. Nkrumah later visited the Paramount Chief of Winneba, Nenyi Ghartey IV at his Palace. She used the platform to appeal to traditional leaders to promote Ghanaian cultural values among their subjects and the youth, more importantly. She presented 10 copies of the pocket-sized 1992 Constitution of Ghana to the Paramount Chief and his Council of Elders.

Nenyi Ghartey IV thanked the NCCE and called on citizens to support the Commission to strengthen civic education in the country.
