NCCE OYIBI OFFICE MARKS WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY WITH CLIMATE ACTION EDUCATION

The Oyibi Office of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), as part of the 2026 World Environment Day celebration under the theme “Climate Action” and the slogan “Inspired by Nature. For Climate. For Our Future,” engaged pupils of Oyibi KKMA Presby Primary A to enhance their understanding of environmental issues and foster responsibility toward climate protection.

During the engagement, the pupils were educated on climate change and its effects, including rising temperatures, erratic rainfall patterns, floods, droughts, deforestation, plastic pollution, and environmental degradation, which negatively affect livelihoods, health, food security, and sustainable development.

Facilitators explained that Article 36(9) of the 1992 Constitution of Ghana enjoins the State to take appropriate measures to protect and safeguard the national environment for present and future generations. The pupils were therefore encouraged to support this constitutional mandate through proper waste management, regular cleaning and desilting of drains, tree planting, and the protection of forests.

The program also featured interactive discussions and participatory sessions that deepened the pupils’ understanding of environmental stewardship and practical climate action. The pupils were motivated to serve as young climate ambassadors in their homes, schools, and communities by promoting positive environmental behavior.

At the end of the engagement, the pupils demonstrated a better understanding of climate change and environmental protection. They also expressed willingness to adopt good environmental practices that would help keep their surroundings clean and safeguard the environment for future generations.
