The Northern Regional Directorate of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) engaged officers of the Ghana Police Service as part of activities marking the 2026 Constitution Week Celebration. The programme was held at the regional police headquarters in Tamale and was attended by about 35 police personnel, comprising 21 men and 14 women.
The programme was led by the Northern Regional Director of the NCCE, Alhaji Aliyu Mohammed, who emphasised the significance of Constitution Week as one of the flagship programmes of the Commission.
In his address, Alhaji Mohammed highlighted that the constitutions of the First, Second, and Third Republics were overthrown through military interventions and therefore could not fully serve their intended purposes. He noted, however, that the Constitution of the Fourth Republic has successfully guided Ghana’s democratic governance for over thirty-four years, making it necessary to celebrate and protect the country's constitutional order.
According to him, about 92.59 per cent of voters endorsed the Constitution, paving the way for the establishment of the Fourth Republic.
The programme was organised under the theme "Upholding Our Constitution in the Digital Age: Our Collective Responsibility". Alhaji Mohammed urged participants to use digital platforms responsibly and to refrain from the spread of misinformation, disinformation, and cybercrime. He stressed that safeguarding constitutional values in the digital era requires the active participation and commitment of all citizens.
Participants were given the opportunity to engage in discussions on constitutional governance, responsible digital citizenship, and the role of security agencies in sustaining Ghana’s democracy.
The programme ended with a renewed commitment by participants to uphold the principles of the 1992 Constitution and contribute to the promotion of peace, democracy, and national development
