The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) Kintampo North Municipal Office officially commenced activities for the 2026 Citizenship Week Celebration (CWC) with a civic education program at Atta Akura M/A Primary and Junior High School.
The celebration, being observed nationwide under the theme “Upholding Our Constitution in the Digital Age: Our Collective Responsibility,” seeks to promote constitutional awareness and responsible citizenship among young people. At the school level, activities are being conducted under the sub-theme “Growing Up Digital: The Ghanaian Child Upholding the Constitution Online.”
Addressing pupils during the opening session, Assistant Civic Education Officer, Madam Patience Ataa Donteajeme, educated them on their constitutional rights and responsibilities within the digital space. Using practical examples drawn from everyday online experiences, she explained the importance of responsible use of social media, the internet, and other digital platforms.
Madam Donteajeme highlighted the relevance of Article 41 of Ghana’s 1992 Constitution, which outlines the civic duties of every citizen. She encouraged pupils to appreciate that the responsibilities enshrined in the Constitution extend beyond physical interactions and also apply to behavior in online environments.
The interactive engagement focused on issues such as cyberbullying, misinformation, digital fraud, and responsible online communication. Pupils were encouraged to critically assess the information they encounter online and to recognize the potential consequences of sharing unverified content.
She further emphasized that responsible digital conduct is both a civic obligation and a reflection of good citizenship. According to her, online actions such as posting, commenting, and sharing information should be guided by respect for others, honesty, and adherence to national values.
The session helped pupils understand that the Constitution is not merely a document for adults but a guide that influences their daily lives, including their activities on digital platforms. Participants acknowledged the dangers posed by cyberbullying, misinformation, and online fraud, and expressed a greater commitment to using digital tools responsibly.
The program marked the beginning of a series of school outreach activities planned across the municipality during the week-long celebration. Through these engagements, the NCCE aims to nurture a generation of responsible digital citizens who uphold constitutional values both offline and online.
The Kintampo North Municipal Office of the NCCE commended the management, staff, and pupils of Atta Akura M/A Primary and JHS for their warm reception and active participation in the opening activity of the 2026 Citizenship Week Celebration.
