NCCE Kwaebibirem Engages Apostolic Church Members on Responsible Digital Citizenship

The Kwaebibirem Municipal Office of the National Commission for Civic Education has engaged members of the Apostolic Church in Kade as part of activities marking the Constitution Week Celebration.

The engagement, held on 24th May 2022, focused on the theme, “Upholding Our Constitution in a Digital Age: Our Collective Responsibility.” It was led by Mr. Hillary Oheme and Mr. Anobel Godfried of the NCCE, who educated the congregation on the need to uphold constitutional values while using digital platforms responsibly.

Addressing the church members, the officers explained the importance of the internet and digital technology in modern society. They noted that digital platforms have become useful tools for communication, education, business promotion, advertisement, governance, and public participation.

They further explained that the digital age has created many opportunities for individuals, communities, institutions, and businesses to connect, share information, access services, and participate in national conversations. Members of the church were therefore encouraged to take advantage of the positive uses of digital technology for personal development, learning, business growth, and community progress.

The congregation was, however, cautioned against the misuse of the internet and social media. The officers advised members to avoid impersonation, fraud, cyberbullying, insults, hate speech, and the spread of false or misleading information. They stressed that irresponsible digital behaviour could undermine peace, damage reputations, violate the rights of others, and weaken respect for the values and principles of the Constitution.

Members of the church were also encouraged to verify information before sharing it and to use digital platforms in ways that promote truth, tolerance, respect, and national unity. The officers reminded the congregation that responsible online conduct is part of good citizenship and that citizens have a shared duty to protect the dignity of others both online and offline.

As part of the engagement, the congregation was encouraged to listen to Abibirem FM on Friday at 8:30 a.m., where the Commission uses its regular slot to educate the public on the Constitution, responsible citizenship, national values, and other civic matters.
