NCCE-Keta Marks World Environment Day with Tree Planting Exercise in Basic Schools

The Keta Municipal Directorate of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE-Keta) commemorated World Environment Day 2026 with a massive tree planting exercise involving selected basic schools within the Keta Municipality. The tree planting exercise took place on Thursday, 4th June, 2026, as learners will be on mid-term on the 5th of June.

The event was held under the global theme, “Climate Action,” aimed at promoting environmental sustainability and creating awareness of the urgent need to protect the environment against the effects of climate change.

As part of the celebration, a total of 200 trees were planted across seven participating schools in the municipality. The schools included Norlivime Basic 1 & 2 Schools, Dzelukope EP School, Dzelukope RC School, Ketasco Basic 1 & 2 Schools, and Vodza RC School.

The exercise brought together pupils, teachers, and officials from NCCE-Keta, who actively participated in planting the trees on school compounds to help improve environmental conservation and encourage greener communities.

Speaking during the exercise, Lina Elinam Bensah, the Keta Municipal Director of NCCE, emphasized the importance of collective efforts in addressing climate change. She noted that tree planting remains one of the effective ways of combating environmental degradation, reducing the effects of global warming, and ensuring a healthier future for generations yet unborn.

Mad. Bensah also encouraged the pupils to take proper care of the planted trees and adopt environmentally friendly habits both at school and at home.

Teachers and students from the participating schools expressed appreciation to NCCE-Keta for the initiative and pledged their commitment to nurturing the trees to maturity.

World Environment Day is celebrated annually across the world to encourage awareness and action towards the protection of the environment. This year’s celebration focused on climate action and the need for individuals and institutions to contribute meaningfully towards environmental sustainability.
