The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), through its Ga West Municipal Office, has organized a civic education programme for pupils of Opah M/A 2 Upper Primary and Junior High School as part of activities marking the 2026 Citizenship Week Celebration.
The programme was held on Wednesday, 3rd June 2026, at Opah M/A 2 Upper Primary and Junior High School to educate pupils on their civic responsibilities in the digital space.
The engagement was organized under the national theme, “Upholding Our Constitution in the Digital Age: Our Collective Responsibility,” and the sub-theme, “Growing Up Digital: The Ghanaian Child Upholding the Constitution Online.”
The resource persons, Mr. Joseph Madjoub and Madam Evelyn Aniakwa, educated the pupils on responsible digital citizenship, online safety, and the importance of upholding constitutional values when using digital platforms.
The pupils were taken through key issues including misinformation, disinformation, cybercrime, digital fraud, cyberbullying, and online abuse. They were advised to verify information before sharing it on social media and to avoid irresponsible online conduct that could harm others or violate the law.
The facilitators explained that digital technology provides useful opportunities for learning, communication, and innovation, but also requires discipline, responsibility, and respect for the rights and privacy of others.
The pupils were encouraged to use the internet positively, protect their personal information, respect others online, and report cases of cyberbullying, fraud, or harmful content to parents, teachers, responsible adults, and the appropriate authorities.
The NCCE reaffirmed its commitment to promoting civic awareness among young people and empowering Ghanaian children to become responsible digital citizens who contribute positively to the country’s democratic development.
The programme ended with an interactive session during which pupils asked questions and shared their experiences on internet usage, online safety, and responsible behaviour in the digital age.
